mergermarket talks on M&A in Africa
Elaine Green, senior deputy editor at mergermarket, reports on M&A activity in Africa. In the first quarter of 2011, Africa had a deal value of 10.9 billion dollars. Although this slowed down during the rest of the year, the total deal value for 2011 was 26.8 billion dollars. This year there is a lot of excitement about the investment potential in Southern and Eastern Africa and West Africa in particular. This is partly because African entities have largely been sheltered from toxic exposure and decoupled from the European debt crisis. In Mining, financial services and consumer we expect consolidation and an increase in cross border M&A throughout Africa in the second half of 2012.
